.HOLIDAYS IN GREECE_a performative installation conceived and realised by ![]()
With the supprt of LoandBehold.
HOLIDAYS IN GREECE is a performative installation that will take place in May 2012 in Berlin.
HOLIDAYS IN GREECE is conceived and realised by STUDIOvisits, Berlin, a
project of encounters taken in random intervals between artists,
theorists, architects and the public. STUDIOvisits is initiated by Vassiliea Stylianidou.
HOLIDAYS IN GREECE is realised with the support of Lo and Behold, an
artist-run non-profit organisation based in Athens whose aim is to
produce and promote cultural activities, both in Greece and abroad.
How complex is the current debt crisis?
What kind of paradigm shift is taking place in Greece right now?
How does the rest of the world perceive Greece today?
What kind of action may one take ?
Sooner or later?
Starting out from those questions
HOLIDAYS IN GREECE opens up a performative mise-en-scène.
The frame of HOLIDAYS IN GREECE is two-folded:
_ an installation will be set up with works that create multiple narrations; a network of associations and interconnections,
_within the installation, artists, theorists, poets and the general
public are invited to send and/or perform a statement: an extended
notion of a performative text that is related to greek/european debt
crisis.
HOLIDAYS IN GREECE will not purport to either find the
causes of the debt crisis or to point the finger at the bad guys and the
good guys.
HOLIDAYS IN GREECE´s starting point is the wish to understand what we cannot so far understand.
HOLIDAYS IN GREECE’s intention is to translate the current crisis
situation into a different experience of understanding, share and
knowledge.
HOLIDAYS IN GREECE builds up a stage for multiple voices
to be heard, so that impossible liaisons, associations and alliances may
be discovered or created, within the condition of the current debt
crisis.
HOLIDAYS IN GREECE explores the meaning of a possible symbolic „profit“ of the „debt“.
HOLIDAYS IN GREECE will be an one day performance-installation.
A documentation of the project will be on view for one week.
A blog will document the whole process of the performative installation.

The exhibition Forays. Systems of Self-Interest – Mechanisms of Looting deals with different methods of exploitation and its different modes of operation. Nine artists explore different systems of exploitation and its consequences. Within the dramatic occurrences of the last years, there was one obvious motif, forming the basis of the financial crisis as well as the basis of the riots in the countries of the Arabic-Spring: Exploitation and systems of self-interest are mechanisms of looting, which occurs as neoliberalism disguised as democracy or naked as dictatorial regime. The possibilities of exploitation are unlimited. Loss of reality characterizes the stakeholders of both systems. The loot-mechanisms of the financial systems are inscrutable in their abstract complexity and virtuality. In totalitarian governed countries like Egypt and Tunisia exploitation and suppression appeared as the everyday life struggle of survival of the population. Based on current occurrences, the exhibition investigates historical, colonial and ideological reference-systems of exploitation. Which illusions are pulled out of the hat, where do the different forms of exploitation coincide and how do they correlate? Who gets rich at the expense of whom?
