The performative reading entitled This Text is Already zu spät / Sewing Riverword consists of rhythms, flows and their disruptions. It explores inquiries about violence, memory, noise and the sounds of words. It is organised as a polyphonic entanglement both of live and recorded voices and sounds. The liberating violence and tenderness of practices such as distortion, distraction, dispersion, and refraction are put to the test.
About the the New Present Tense / Experimental Lit and Performance Festival:
On November 22nd and 23rd, A) GLIMPSE) OF) opens to the New Present Tense, and its radical modes of signification.
The present tense is used to talk about the present and the future. It is a base form of understanding, awareness and information. In times of total violence, irreversible catastrophes, pervasive sadism (Mary Turfah), political abuse, false consciousness (Marx), and hegemonic cynicism, the present tense may work as “a way of self-distributing” (Dimitra Ioannou). Since it reflects how one engages in the here and now, what one shares with the other human and non human animals, how one consumes time on this planet and perceives the future, it may be transformed into a tool of refusal, “collective intelligence” (Verónica Gago), or/and a “new order of feeling” (Anne Boyer). The New Present Tense as a political gesture may create new vernaculars and new communities. Curator: Dimitra Ioannou. Guest curator: Yiannis Andronikidis.

About the exhibition:
Intro:
Since 2005, quotes from past decades (mostly from the 1980s) have been the title of the annual One Night Group Shows at the end of November in Spor Klübü. Other projects, especially the pandemic, had led to a 4-year break in this exhibition format. Last year the thread was resumed with the exhibition "Zero Tolerance" and 135 participating artists. With 189 artists participating this time, the density of works in the exhibition space is again significantly increased.
"Close To The Edge"
The 1980s, the last decade of the Cold War, is characterized by the threat of violent disputes in the East-West conflict with initially rearmament and later disarmament, the opening up to the Eastern Bloc up to the fall of the Berlin Wall, the rise of neoliberalism, the actor Ronald Reagan as American president for two terms, the beginning of the era of Chancellor Kohl. A whole weird decade often on the edge. Grandmaster Flash And The Furious rapped in 1982 in their hook line: "Don't push me 'cause I'm close to the edge - I'm trying not to lose my head - It's like a jungle sometimes - It makes me wonder how I keep from going under". They bring the social criticism of the black, marginalized and oppressed population into hip-hop as proof of failed politics.
Switch. Over four decades later. Once again, an American re-elected President Trump enters his second term. With a sense of victory that can no longer be averted, he proclaims a coming golden age of America and a return to former greatness at the expense of the poor, the weak, those who think and live differently, women and migrants. The Ampelcoalition in Germany is falling apart. War and the Cold War are already making a comeback in Europe. The world is unsafe. Propaganda and lies instead of truths. Violent intimidation as normality. The law of the strong. Fascists are warming up. Will the punished attackers of the storming of the Capitol in January 2021 soon be pardoned?
Will the 1980s get a revival that will be even closer to the edge?

⚡️Day of action due to the current situation! Another presentation of the One Night Group Show
More than 2,500 people demonstrated against the announced cuts to Berlin’s cultural budget on Friday, November 29 from 3 pm. The bbk berlin and the network of independent Berlin project spaces and initiatives had called the demonstration. Many of the participating artists from „CLOSE TO THE EDGE“ came directly to the opening of the ONE NIGHT GROUP SHOW after the demonstration. In this respect, the evening was marked by protest against the cuts to the cultural budget and the sad lessons to be learned from them. But it was also marked by joy and the conviction that our creative and solidarity forces will not bow to this dictate. With this in mind, the ONE NIGHT GROUP SHOW will be repeated for the first time, i.e. it will be opened once again in the form of a day of action. In an open discussion round, there will also be the opportunity to express your own concerns, inform each other and think together about measures and activities. (Text by Matthias Mayer/SporKlübü)

WordMord {annotation tentacle} feels delighted to share with you the process of the project Not one (annotation) less.
Not one (annotation) less started in 2021 and is continuing with the workshop Annotating femicide: queer/feminist reading group & collective tooling which took place at AMOQA (Athens Museum of Queer Arts) on November 2, 2024.
Not one (annotation) less is an on-going project of intervention in the linguistic system/code of legal discourse. It involves a digital interface that offers the possibility of annotating a page from the greek Penal Code (2021) and more specifically the Chapter Fifteen on Crimes Against Life. Using Free/Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS) tools, the digital environment of Not one (annotation) less allows the creation of different versions of annotated pdfs.
Through the collective process of annotations -as mutations/transformations of the greek Criminal Code- that brings together poetic, legal, experiential, visual, sonic and intersectional discourse, we want to construct a collective space for breathing and discussion that embraces pluralism and χειρaffectιτικές processes of inter/vocality.

WordMord is a transdisciplinary artistic research that explores the complex relation between language, technology, trauma, violence but also the relation of language to the body, pleasure and sexuality. WordMord explores the possibilities of disrupting normative patriarchal language by shedding light on the performative, embodied and material aspects of words and language.

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Kunstverein Tiergarten, this publication and exhibition project brings together the names of all 2,193 people and institutions who have actively engaged in exhibitions and events at Galerie Nord, and who have set relevant aesthetic impulses, as well as initiated and enriched the sociopolitical discourse. In a room-book-installation conceived for this occasion, all artists named in the RE:VISION publication have been invited to loan an original artistic work in exchange for a copy of the exhibition catalog, an open book functioning not only as an archive and placeholder, but also as a catalyst for visitors to help curate through active participation. For the duration of the show the interplay of artistic transaction and procedural co-creation will unfold as multifarious varieties of combinations, undermining traditional curatorial hierarchies and deconstructing conventional exhibition practices. In this unpredictable choreography of appearing and disappearing names, stories, and art, past and present shall no longer remain separate: Twenty years condensed into an interwoven time within the book-space. Gradually, a completely new exhibition will take shape: RE:VISION which will culminate in a glittering anniversary party.

The work People of the South investigates the dynamics of voice, affinity, kinship, care, collective grief and joy. Komminuτέρας /ko.mĭ.nju.té.ras​​/ (they/them, plural) is a polylingual, polysomatic, poetic and from time to time blasphemous and lucious singing gang. Komminuτέρας investigates the (im)possible modalities through which music, rhythm, poiesis and movement destabilize and dismantle the patriarchal and nationalist structures that inhabit and insist within hegemonic languages.
Κοmminuτέρας are: V Franck-Lee Alli-Tis, Oyto Arognos, Christina Karagianni.

A polyphonic performance with 13 performers, one text, drawings and an oak tree at the Haus of Eiche, Humboldthain park Berlin. Within the context of the work-in-progress with the title wide wood web friendship. Duration: 37 min.

A tree was struck by lightning
The oak tree was leaning across the park path
Its trunk was torn open in pieces
In November 2023 Franck-Lee Alli-Tis aka V Stylianidou started an ongoing process of reading/decoding/drawing the opened-up skin of the fallen oak tree.
A series of drawings have been produced.
On December 29, 2023 a collective polyphonic performance takes place at the Humboldthain Park Berlin. Invited artists and performers read a text written by Franck-Lee Alli-Tis aka V Stylianidou. The participants voice/ breathe out the drawings of the opened-up tree skin using the sounds of the environment.
The language of the text and its meaning are disrupted and mutated by the sounds and noises produced by the overlapping voices of the participants. New polyphonic and embodied languages full of pleasure, playfulness and affect have been shaped.
The performance generates a new network of materials, situations, actions, voices and bodies that interweaves the participants with the existing network of the tree.
The work embraces the paradox of its own materiality: graphite, wood, paper, ink, plastic, electricity, time, minutes, hours, more electricity, data, metal, copper, a studio, a tree, bodies, organs, intestines, air, worms, caterpillars, flies, soil, moist: mycorrhizal symbiotic associations.
The project How to mutate the word tree into a verb? Or What new wordnoises does this tree trunk dream of? poses questions on the entanglement of language to patriarchy and domination, on the potentialities of language decomposition and on the relationship between human and non-human forms of life.

About the exhibition:
Since 2005, quotes from past decades (mostly from the 1980s) headlined the annual One Night Group Shows at the end of November at Spor Klübü. Other projects and especially the pandemic had led to a 4-year break of this show format. This year the thread is picked up again. "ZERO TOLERANCE" stands as a term for many dubious strategies - especially as a strategy of crime fighting and crime prevention. This allows the police - preventively, so to speak - to intervene or crack down hard on regulatory violations below the crime threshold, so-called petty offenses. It became known in the 1990s with the "New York Model", championed by Republican Mayor Rudy Giuliani and his police chief Bill Bratton, who based it on the "Broken Windows Theory" that had already emerged in the 1980s. As a result, the zero-tolerance strategy became a worldwide export hit and also partly ended up in German criminology and politics. The success and efficiency of the strategy remained doubtful and were apparently never clearly proven. The negative sides, however, were obvious: exaggerated restrictions on freedom, the emergence of excessive police arbitrariness and violence, the establishment of a control and police state, and so on. In the 1990s, running a red light on a bicycle in Manhattan or openly consuming alcohol on the street meant fearing that one could end up in jail. Another zero-tolerance strategy was pursued by the U.S. government under President Trump many years later with regard to immigration to the United States. If legal or illegal immigrants as well as asylum seekers had, among other things, an entry in their national or foreign criminal records, they were immediately detained and deported or turned away. Families, e.g. children from their parents, were also separated from each other without consideration.
What if you turn zero tolerance around and look at it from a different angle? For example, precisely against these political intentions and actors and in the political demarcation against the right. It is unacceptable that a party like the AfD, for example, is tolerated in Germany just because it reaches people and wins votes, but is based on far-right, national socialist, racist, anti-Semitic, anti-Muslim (word added by the artist) and queer-hostile ideas, among other things. Anyone who abandons his zero tolerance limit at this point, who enters his firewall, succumbs to complicity and makes right-wing extremism more acceptable.

House of Kal at nGbK is part of the transoceanic platform, a language where yesterday and tomorrow are the same word. Kal (kal). Founded in 2020, by a group of artists and activists, kal is nomadic place for listening, music and movement, for practicing vocabularies at the crossings of art, anticolonial feminisms and eco-politics that articulate radically different ways of being alive together in entangled futures, pasts and presents. The name of the platform is inspired by a line in Fatimah Asghar’s poem Kal and extends the invocation of this word that means both “yesterday” and “tomorrow”, shifting its meaning based on who speaks, from where and when.
The artistic and activist positions interconnect modes of survival and reimagination that emerge from water bound ecologies around the Indian Ocean, the Arabian Sea, the northern Atlantic and the River Spree. Together they propose an anti-map of ecologies of practice invested in collectivity, resistance, worldbuilding and imperfect solidarities, with a focus on queer, migrant and decolonial relationships between the Global North and South across time and space.

.Glωssic Isnaf by WordMord in the exhibition Plásmata ΙΙ: Ioannina
Running from June 16 to July 9, Plásmata II comprises a large exhibition of digital works by Greek and international artists on the city's lakeside route, as well as concerts and DJ sets, workshops, discussions, educational programs, guided tours, and Movement Radio, Stegi's 24-hour online radio station that compiles a deeply local, and therefore genuinely global, program. In Ioannina, Plásmata proposes new itineraries and symbioses at the boundary of the city and Lake Pamvotida, broadening the dialogue between the material and immaterial, the center and the periphery, the past and the future.

Glωssic Isnaf is a tentacular work in the public space of the castle and lakeside of Ioannina city in north-western Greece. The work consists of a sound and sculptural installation, a video and a performance.
The fields of our research for this project are the Ioannina linguistic idiom and the amalgam of languages that includes greek, turkish, albanian, vlach, hebrew, as well as the relationship of the city's history with Lake Pamvotis and the local tanneries.
Through the study of myths, fairy tales, songs and historical/journalistic events of the Ioannina region, we have traced gendered elements concerning the relationship between human and more-than-human forms of life. Using artistic and queer feminist methodologies to deconstruct hegemonic language, we created a narrative in which the non-binary creature, Isnaf, is born/reproduced at the bottom of the lake Pamvotis.
Pamvotida, "the one that feeds everything" is renamed  ‘Λιμνήμη’ (‘mnemopond’). Through its watery materiality it absorbs and holds the memory of the stories, sounds of the city. The language spoken by the creature Isnaf is embodied and hybrid, connected to the materialities of the ‘Λιμνήμη’ (‘mnemopond’), and is focused on rhythm and voice.
In the sound work we created hybrid voices using sound processing algorithms.
The installation of the work exposes remnants of animal hides from the tanneries that operated in the city until 1970.
The site-specific performance entitled „Λιμνήμη, Λιμνήμη, Λιμνήμη (fugitive paths and stormy threads)“ consists of a route that includes three nodes, starting from the Byzantine tower, passing through the castle gate where the video and the sound and sculptural installation "Glωssic Isnaf" are located, to end at the lake.

Which language makes you feel loved? Which not?⁠
In which language do you shout? ⁠
In which language do you hear your silence?⁠
⁠In “Gλωσσique Encounters”, the collective WordMord dives into found public and private texts and speeches - such as comments on social media, newspaper articles, laws, contracts, school books, dictionaries, love letters, etc - that reflect abusive and dominant language. They analyze, destabilize, distort, paraphrase, re/verse, shake up, transform, transliterate, slow down the hegemonic, violent as well as binary aspects of the language that dominates and constructs our bodies and our desires. ⁠
⁠In this performative presentation, WordMord will introduce their practice, listing the embodied and technological mediated tools and methodologies they have developed and they will invite the audience to re/write on their skin and therefore paraphrase the words that hurt or the words that one loves.⁠
⁠WordMord is an interdisciplinary artistic research process between Athens, Berlin and Rotterdam aiming to unravel the complex ways in which language and technology intertwine with trauma and violence but also with the body, pleasure and sexuality. WordMord´s initial research team consists of: Franck-Lee Alli-Tis aka V Stylianidou, Aggeliki Diakrousi,  Christina Karagianni, Oyto Arognos aka Stylianos Benetos and (until 2022) the group “MounοΛογιες” (Eleni Diamantouli and Anna Delimpasi).⁠

nitiated and realized by Matthias Mayer and Maik Schierloh in cooperation with Treptow-Ateliers e.V. Opening: Friday., 11.11., 17:00-22:00 at the Treptow Ateliers Berlin. Wilhelminenhofstr. 83-85 - Oberschöneweide - 12459 Berlin.
About the exhibition: Anyone who has moved to Berlin in recent decades has played a part in the development of this city. For some, it conveyed an atmosphere of departure (or even "dependency") in an alternative and avant-garde sense; for others, it was merely a projection surface for profane economic interests pushed by global market events. There was never a vision for all. Politicians were merely trying to pick the pearls out of many alternative ideas. For example, the nightlife and the precarious life of artists were included in the marketing of Berlin. This blind vision is now reflected in a place of action. An unrenovated former industrially used hall and other rooms formerly used as offices, which were made available to the artists' community "Treptow-Ateliers" together with their cheaply rented temporary studios as a temporary playground by an investor. The community itself opened the space for third-party projects. The rawness of the historic site, the desire and spontaneity of the alternative users inevitably lead back to the aura of Berlin in the 1980s and 1990s. And of course Berlin still works like that. But the atmosphere is deceptive, the awakening already sits in the neck, like a drug that slowly loses its effect. Because it all ends, and without romanticism. The artists soon have to go back to their nomadic way. Only that they are not nomadic, but originally displaced from their cherished place of work. Their journey is already unique, because they stick together in solidarity in their seemingly hopeless situation. What could become, what could be? Why is it a blind vision?
With the exhibition title "BLIND VISION" we want to point out not only a view of Berlin but also the unfortunate (spatial) situation of artists in Berlin, especially that of the Ateliergemeinschaft Treptow-Ateliers. Their old studio location in Mörikestraße was terminated in 2018 after six lively years of exchange, mutual support and joint art presentation. The resistance to stay remained unsuccessful, so that the community found an interim use at the current location in the Rathenau-Hallen on Wilhelminenhofstraße as a stopgap solution in 2020. The expected bad news came just in these days. The exhibition From the shore to the mud pool takes inspiration from when David Wojnarowicz and Mike Bidlo took over a Hudson River pier in NY to create a collaborative art space. Inspired by how a ruin became a meeting place, we fill the factory with various queer gestures. The exhibition “From the shore to the mud pool” investigates the act of cruising as a practice, addressed to all genders and identities.The show is inspired by how artists and gays cruised and made art in the abandoned Waterfront Piers in New-York City in the 80s. Cruising was and is still mainly a gay male practice, , in this show we use it as a departure point, a tool for reclaiming space and dreaming of other ways of being in the world. Das Kollektiv der Liebenden consists of two performance videos with sound and one sound piece. It is based on a speculative fairytale especially written for the project.
The two videos display moments of delight and the nocturnal encounters and rituals that the "Kollektiv der Liebenden" ("The Collective of the Lovers) stages once light falls, and they can open their mouths.
The sound piece interweaves performative readings of the narration with paralinguistic speech-acts. Employing different tongues, it shades light on the materiality of language to manifest both the joy and the restrictions of speaking.

I feel happy to share this inspiring text written by art theorist and independent curator Elpida Karaba about the performative reading with the title “WordMord” which initiated the collective project WordMord .
Tracing 🐙WordMord🐙:
WordMord started as a performative reading/video performance within the context of the seminar „Feminist Practices in the Public Space at the Era of Globalised Technologies“, organized by the Centre of New Media and Feminist Public Practices in 2019.
It continued in the form of an Open Laboratory and video -open call for intra-action within the context of Glitter and Grief at Haus der Statistik in Berlin in October 2020.
Since 2020 WordMord proceeds as collective artistic research which evolves through artworks, presentations, workshops and other formats.
In other words, WordMord is a keen and joyful interspecies monster unfurling its various tentacles deep in the sea of plural languages.
WordMord explores the relation of language to technology, body, power, violence and trauma, sexuality and pleasure.

WordMord is a collective artistic research which started as part of the seminar Feminist Practices in the Public Space at the Era of Globalised Technologies, organized by the Centre of New Media and Feminist Practices in the Public Space at the Department of Architecture, University of Volos (GR) in 2019. The project´s starting point are two instances of public violence, misogyny, and homophobia that occurred in Greece in 2018: the brutal murder of the queer activist Zak/Zackie Oh in Athens and the femicide of Eleni Topaludi in Rhodes. WordMord means that words can kill. WordMord poses questions on the relationship between language, technology, trauma and violence. How is violence represented through (online) narratives? How can we assemble, archive and thus deconstruct heteronormative, derogatory, sexist, homophobic and transphobic narratives? WordMord believes that the violence of language is not eradicated by merely erasing words, but rather by transversing their violent imposition through specific practices, that trouble and disrupt grammatical consistency, semantic norms, 'correct' pronunciation. The rupture of linguistic limits suggests the possibility of experiencing language in its materiality.
In this worksession, that is hosted by Varia, a space for developing collective approaches to everyday technology in Rotterdam, WordMord will present their investigations of how coding can destabilise traumatic language. The group has also invited Allison Parrish to conduct the workshop 'Creative Writing with Computers, Noise and Mulch'.
In the beginning WordMord will present and discuss questions and processes/scripts they have experimented with. They will show tools and methods towards a poetically subversive meta/para/re-writing of derogatory narratives and consequently of trauma and violence. Through coding and algorithmic processes they investigate violent words and their arbitrary use in legal and journalistic/media contexts. These linguistic decisions may reproduce a language that is unjust and repeatedly traumatizes vulnerable bodies. Focusing on specific trial cases of femicide and queericide in Greece they seek to destabilize the normative narratives by counting, investigating, observing, replacing, repeating and multiplying words.
Later in the evening we will continue with the workshop by the poet and programmer Allison Parrish, Creative Writing with Computers, Noise and Mulch: We know computers best as tools for analyzing text, composing text, and "correcting" text through grammar and spell check. But computation is an equally useful tool for pulling language apart, grinding it down, and making it unfamiliar. This workshop offers a short series of hands-on tutorials with code that facilitates destructive and defamiliarizing operations on text. The workshop culminates in a collaboratively produced online zine. No previous programming experience is required.
Allison Parrish is a computer programmer, poet, and game designer whose teaching and practice address the unusual phenomena that blossom when language and computers meet. She is an Assistant Arts Professor at NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program.
Wordmord seeks to connect art with queer feminist activism and emancipated life. Through collaborations with artists, performers, linguists, lawyers, programmers, activists and groups working with feminist algorithmic and computational practices, it shapes an online rhizomatic space as an active feminist archive. WordMord´s initial research group consists of: Vassiliea Stylianidou aka Franck-Lee Alli-Tis, Ageliki Diakrousi, Christina Karagianni, Oýto Άrognos aka Stylianos Benetos, Mounologies: Eleni Diamantouli and Anna Delimpasi. After a year of online meetings, the research group “WordMord” kicks off with WordComminutes. A workshop on crashing language. WordComminutes will take place on October 16 and 17, 12.00 - 17.00 at Eight / Το Οχτώ, critical institute for arts and politics in Athens. OXTΩ/EIGHT, Politechniou 8, Athens.

Wordmord is a collective artistic research project which started as part of the seminar „Feminist Practices in the Public Space at the Era of Globalised Technologies“, organized by the Centre of New Media and Feminist Practices in the Public Space in 2019. Drawing on paralinguistic theory, queer linguistics and embodied artistic practices, in this workshop we will explore the possibilities of destabilising/disrupting/disturbing/troubling normative patriarchal language by seeking queer feminist methodologies that desire/speak languages in plural. These practices of language destabilisation do not emerge from the prohibition of words/notions, but rather from a desire to undo the separation of language from the body/affect/sexuality.
More specifically, instead of measuring the effectiveness of language through meaning production, we will experiment with texts that reflect stereotypical narratives on issues of gender, nationality, language, sexuality, legislation, history, family…(what else?) in order to shake up/distort/undo the words in these texts. We will collectively write/’shout’/embody a manifesto. We desire to declassify/shake off the ‘clean/correct’ form of language in search of new meaning(s), perhaps? A meaning in flux. In this workshop we will use diverse materials and media such as collective writing, our embodied voices, texts, scores and textiles. The workshop will take the form of a performative erratic walk in the city. Through presentations, discussions and other practices we wish to expand this queer feminist genealogy by proposing/elaborating our own methods of deconstructing hegemonic narratives. Collectively, we want to feel/trace the areas of language that are often ignored/overlooked/underestimated/degraded by the dominant language system (entanglement of sound, sense, gesture, tonality, breathing and rhythm). We want to overcome the restrictive use of words that only allows the reproduction of rational meaning. WordMord believes that the violence of language is not eradicated by merely deleting/erasing words, but rather by transversing their violent imposition through specific practices that trouble and disrupt grammatical consistency, semantic norms, ‘correct’ pronunciation, ‘proper’ bodily posture. The group exhibition The Right to Breathe takes as a starting point the “shortness of breath” derived from the experience of political pressure, social injustice, and economic austerity, exploring its connection with poetics, live art, and embodied politics. The concerns driving the “I Can’t Breathe” debates around race, discrimination, and violence have been left unconfronted for far too long. At the same time, the countless social injustices, and the politics of disposability that the COVID-19 pandemic lays bare expose the delusions of a post-racial society, as well as the deprivation of the universal right to breathe (see Achille Mbembe). The topic of breathability that the exhibition identifies and aims to historicize also provides an insight into the ongoing revaluation of criminal justice reform.

WordMord is an on-going project that focuses on the creation of a collective laboratory for the distortion/destabilisation of derogatory language.
WordMord started as part of the seminar „Feminist Practices in the Public Space at the Era of Globalised Technologies“, organized by the Centre of New Media and Feminist Public Practices at the University of Thessaly, Volos (Gr) in 2019. The project´s starting point are two instances of public violence, misogyny, and homophobia that occurred in Athens in 2018: the brutal murder of the queer activist Zak Kostopoulos/Zackie Oh and the femicide of Eleni Topaludi in Greece in 2018.

Phase II: “Let´s Assemble Our Wordy Arms”_a performative laboratory. Video Presentation/Open Workshop/Call for (intra)-action. In collaboration with Stylianos Benetos aka Oyto Arognos.
WordMord poses questions on the relationship between language, technology, trauma and violence against vulnerable bodies, which are not accepted by the patriarchal heteronormative regime. How can we assemble, archive and thusly deconstruct these kinds of speech and the derogatory, sexist, homophobic, ableist and transphobic narratives? By exploring subversive and queer feminist methodologies, WordMord seeks to connect art (poetry/performance/moving image/sound) with queer feminist activism and emancipated life..
We invite you to be part of the open laboratory at the Haus of Statistik on the 6th of October 2020 from 17.30 to 22.00
We will be co-writing and audio-recording derogatory words and narrations. By the means of queer feminist methodologies, we will then distort, destabilize and deconstruct these words and narrations.

.Aphrodite* / her* geographies, her* complices, her* intersexions (Co-curation)
Since its beginning in 2018 the Aphrodite* queer-feminist film festival aims to establish a long-term relationship with local and international LGBTQI*+ feminist communities. Through film screenings, discussions and workshops, Aphrodite* curates art and activist projects that document the stories and languages of queer-feminist subjects as well as the politics of bodies and borders.
Aphrodite* 2020 following the rise of the far right and systemic racism intimidating refugees*, migrants* and LGBTQI* - feminist subjects, explores art and activist projects which deal with the issues of surveillance, sexuality, body and intimacy. More specifically,  this year’s curatorial idea is an initial attempt aiming to establish a platform of queer-feminist groups from bordering Balkan countries. The queer-feminist film festival Aphrodite* 2020 is co-curated by the collectives: Aleanca LGBT (Albania), Sofia Queer Forum (Bulgaria), Pembe Hayat Kuirfest (Turkey), Tiiiit! Inc. (Macedonia).
We question how vulnerability, isolation, restricted freedom of movement and a closed border policy are experienced into local specificities as well as into translocal commonalities. This question becomes even more urgent under the conditions of the pandemic. Furthermore, we seek to conceive new ways of dealing with life and loss that are emerging through these constraints.
Taking into account the narrative(s) of the Balkan peninsula based on both cultural stereotypes and fragmentary historical and political connections, as well as on controversial affinities and the lack of mutual knowledge, we wish to engage in conversation with queer-feminist artists* and collectives in order to reflect on these discourses. The program of Aphrodite* 2020 includes short or feature films, documentaries and diy videos related to the topics of Aphrodite* / her* geographies, her* synergies, her* intersexions. Besides the film and videos selected by the curatorial groups, an additional open call focuses on women* and LGBTQI* artists from the Balkans who live or have lived in Greece.
Due to the constraints imposed by the pandemic, the festival will be held online on December 5th and 6th hosted by the Greek Film Archive.

Reading Group - Οnline seminar ΙΙI_Guest: Vassiliea Stylianidou aka Franck-Lee Alli-Tis
The Centre of New Media and Feminist Public Practices transfers its Reading Group series online, Thursdays 18.00 - 21.00. In our reading group, we collectively read and discuss texts that focus on feminist practices, their claims and transformations as well as on public space and globalised economies and technologies. As part of these meetings, we also invite artists to present works coordinated with the work and the research of the Center, aiming to a creative interchange between texts, theory and practice. Since the reading group meetings that we had arranged in the physical space were interrupted due to the pandemic, we decided to continue in the expanded space of the internet. Our online meetings are open to everyone who would like to take part in the discussion.
On Thursday 2 July we will present Vassiliea Stylianidou’s aka Franck-Lee Alli-Tis project WordMord, which was shaped at the Centre of New Media & Feminist Public Practices during a workshop organised by the artist. The starting points of the workshop were two extreme incidents of public violence, misogyny and homophobia: the inhumane lynching and murder of the queer activist Zak Kostopoulos/Zackie Oh, in public view in the centre of Athens, and the femicide of Eleni Topaloudi in Rhodes.
Wordmord poses questions on the relationship between language and violence against vulnerable bodies, which are not accepted by the patriarchal heteronormative regime. Words are micro-archives that reflect power relations, social norms and laws. How is public violence represented through online narratives? How can we assemble, archive and thusly deconstruct these kinds of speech and the derogatory, sexist, homophobic and transphobic narratives that are being developed? By seeking subversive and queer feminist methodologies, Wordmord gives prominence to the political and poetic power of language.
At the Reading Group, we will talk about feminist practices that destabilise dominant languages, as well as the relationship between word and image as representation strategies. Drawing inspiration from the work of Paul B. Preciado, whose writing practice manifests as the technology for the production of subjectivity, Wordmord traces the possible methodologies of (collective) performative writing as a technology that produces embodied (collective) desires.
In the wake of the latest developments of Topaloudi’s trial and verdict, while Zak's trial is still pending and as public opinion is divided, we will talk about necropolitics and the critical implications associated with the understanding of the profound effects that global shifts and crises have on women*, which, under the pressure of a new unprecedented crisis, of the pandemic, are magnified and become complicated. Texts from timeliness and social networks will intersect queer feminist theory that emerges in the present as more relevant than ever.

About the exhibition “Is It Possible to Live Outside of Language?":
The Ministry of Utmost Happiness by Arundhati Roy opens with the protagonist Anjum, a hijra who has set up her own community in a graveyard in Delhi as a mode of survival and resistance from the broader conformist and violent society. When Anjum is born as an intersex infant, her mother interrogates the binary gendered Urdu language as a means to name and define her child, wondering ‘is it possible to live outside of language?’
Taking this story as a jumping off point, the exhibition and its associated programming is an investigation and reflection of both the limitations and possibilities of language as a means to define, explain and express diverse genders and sexualities across time and space. Featuring new commissions by artists Fiza Khatri, Lucas Odahara, The Many Headed Hydra, Omer Wasim and Vassilieia Stylianidou, the works address the complex burden and inheritance of language in our daily lives as it narrows our ability to express even while encouraging us to explore new modes of expression and writing to explain our circumstances and lives. The exhibition is complemented by a series of public programs including readings, performances and talks by Momina Masood, Asad Alvi, Fazal Rizvi, Mehlab Jameel and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, amongst others, as well as private workshops targeted towards emerging writers and artists. Even though a sober and timely reflection on the challenges and erasure of diverse voices in our society, this project is also a celebration of solidarity and community in order to chart new futures.
The exhibition opens on Thursday, August 22, 4 – 8 PM and runs through September 24.

Get to work!“) which urges us to reconsider our relation to the revolutionary generation of 68s, I invited -in my turn- the „Justice for Zackie Block Berlin“ (queer activists from greece and Soli Tsoli group) to collaborate with me. We developed together a performative installation / intervention with the title „This is Not an Artwork (glitter acts and words)“ (2018) employing one placard the group made for its participation in the Unteilbar demonstration in Berlin in September 2018. The slogan on the placard is inspired by a facebook post of Zak Kostopoulos / Zackie from 2016.
On Friday, September 21, Zak Kostopoulos, an activist of the LGBTIQ+ movement, HIV positive, antifascist and drag queen (Zackie Oh!), was brutally assassinated in the centre of Athens in public view and in broad daylight. The murder was instigated by "outraged citizens merely trying to protect their property” with the tolerance and complicity of men of the Greek Police. It has been followed by an unprecedented operation of covering up the murder, misinforming the public through the mass media, and presenting the victim as a perpetrator. The murder of Zak/Zackie was an act of barbarism and growing fascism. We demand justice. We will fight until those who are guilty of Zak's/Zackie´s murder are punished. We will fight against fascism and "normativity". Our lives matter.

The films in the 5th program of the 12 Moons Film Lounge are declarations of both war and love: against colonial-racial repression, against the Othering of bodies, against rigid identity concepts and for the development of new languages, forms and coordinates. For self-determination and collectivity, physical thinking and its resonance spaces. There to live manifestos and to dream theories. In the form of dance, performance, painting, rap, text, music and experimental video, the artists subject existing power relations to negotiation, feminisms and identity politics of different generations rub against each other, positions fuse together and come apart.The film selection, shown as projections and on two monitors in the 12 Moons Film Lounge, condenses artistic perspectives from three decades into a complex survey of the politics of speaking about identities and bodies. Can we possibly come closer to the answers by autoperforation? And should we print them on t-shirts? Do we read glued mustaches in this part of the earth the same way as elsewhere and how can the experiences of “female” “bodies” remain relevant in the postidentitarian discourse? How can avatars help us to develop a radically new language, the blurred of which may allow something like solidarity to seem possible. Text meets body, word meets movement, story meets future. “Exhaustion is wicked. Kissing is too”.

The project with the title “Hello! My name is Β_ _ o _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _d _ y _ _ and I am here to abduct the f_ _ _ut_ _ u_ _ _ _ _ _ re_ _ _” is a polyphonic -both real and fictitious- discussion between five persons and one Alien-Narrator.
It poses as its starting point the question of the relation between the body, gender, language and the future. More specifically, it explores the political dimension of trans* /inter*/ non binary /de-gendered identities and their relation to language and their visions about the future. The discussion begins with following assumptions and inquiries:
We cannot speak about the future without first speaking about gender. And we cannot speak about gender without modifying the language in which we speak and feel and understand and love one another. The future–if something like this exists–passes necessarily through the de/re- construction of language. Language becomes not just the means but the body itself. How is this possible? Is a gender transition possible only through language?
The project proposes to design a new language of the future for the trans*/inter*/ non-binary / de-gendered body. For the body who wants to construct /form a new identity. Or even a language for the erasure of identity.

Subjectivities, art, politics An event organized by the team of the international research project "Learning from documenta" in collaboration with TWIXTlab will be held on Friday April 28th, 2017 at 7:00 pm. 
This event aims to approach the experience of subjects and locate them in the cross-cut between political action and art institutions in Athens during the financial crisis. We will try to highlight the ways through which personal critical stances are transformed through art institutions into a politics of art.
Participants can join one of the two “tables” of conversation opened by three short presentations. During the discussion, participants can move from table to table. Afterwards, the coordinators will summarize the discussion to all present, and open for public comments. Throughout the duration, three videos from contributing artists will be screened, contributing to the conversation.

Within the scope of the exhition Regarding Nicolas Calas at the Athens School of Fine Arts.
The work titled KNOTRPSELL_first_construction_by FOR AN ANONYMOUS FUGITIVE AUTHOR, 2016 is an intermedia performative installation of a site for the interaction of more artistic media such as a sculptural installation, a text industrially woven into fabric, voice, sound and performance. This intermedia performative installation belongs to the wider body of a work-in-progress with the general working title What is to be undone.
For that work, in 2013, Vassiliea Stylianidou exported 20 multicolored bolts of fabric from the family fabric business in Thessaloniki to Munich aiming to produce/generate – through the work – a debt that is simultaneously financial, familial and artistic. Through an artistic narrative that moves in-between truth and invention, Vassiliea Stylianidou ponders with critical irony, the meaning and the construction of artistic value: in the context of the specific work-in-progress, the debt is equated with the work of art itself: the debt is the artwork, its medium and its materiality – as it is continuously being transferred from the institutional organizer to the artist, from the artist to the artwork and thence to space and also to the viewer herself. That debt, impossible to repay, is set into constant motion, becoming transformed and hybrid.
Since 2013, following several different, successive and autonomous performative installations, the twelve bolts of fabric spread/transfer and transform the debt and the value of the artwork, as they engaged every time with the new thematic sequence of the respective work. In this manner, different systems of thought and organization converse in the artwork, such as visual and poetic thinking with (made up) financial reality with the social structure of the patriarchal family, with the body (embodiment) and with sexuality. For the exhibition Regarding Nicolas Calas, Vassiliea Stylianidou constructs a poetic text that explores the question of the mutual influence between language and the body and gender identity. Using as a departure point three phrases from N. Calas’ poetry collection 16 French Poems,
Nothing is yours and your gender scares you

the artist continues in her text the exploration of “what words make up the body”, by positing a series of questions and poetic positions on the constructive and performative potential of language in the possible reconstructions of the gendered body’s identity.
Following an order by the artist, the text is woven using a weaving machine.
In this performative installation are involved the text, the weaving and seven strips cut off from the twenty bolts – that have come from the artistic narrative which conjoins financial and familial debt as well as the body as a gendered system of identities.
At the same time, the text is the basis for an audio work.
The performance along with the audio work humorously conjoins transgenderism and intermediality as potentialities for performative construction and as experienced realities.
The word KNOTRPSELL in the work’s title is a made up word which the two performers do and undo for and with the viewers. In this manner, critical exploration is instigated of one or two of the many possibilities of construction and reconstruction of gender through language, following and paraphrasing what Judith Butler describes in her book Undoing Gender: «One is always “doing” with or for another, even if the other is only imaginary. What I call my “own” gender appears perhaps at times as something that I author or, indeed, own. But the terms that make up one´s own gender are, from the start, outside oneself, beyond oneself in a sociality that has no single author (and that radically contests the notion of authorship itself).»

The work titled “FA®THER_ERRATIC PATTERNS. By FOR AN ANONYMOUS FUGITIVE AUTHOR„ is assembled and unfolds through five different artistic media: (poetic) text, sculptural installation, performance, video and music. These media interweave and interrelate, both spatially and conceptually, to produce a performative video installation.
The work “FA®THER_ERRATIC PATTERNS. By FOR AN ANONYMOUS FUGITIVE AUTHOR„ treats the concepts of return and of language as a linguistic and bodily topological process of recurring patterns.
The work constructs with humor and a critical edge a particular narrative in which are involved in an interactive capacity 20 bolts of fabric, a clothing export company, a family, a debt, 500 Art Bonds, two or three texts, voice, rhythm, the audience and the artist herself.
Materials: 20 bolts of fabric, text woven into fabric, video, music.
As of 2015, via a nexus of communicating works, Vassiliea Stylianidou evolves and constructs FOR AN ANONYMOUS FUGITIVE AUTHOR. FOR AN ANONYMOUS FUGITIVE AUTHOR (she, he, it). This author who/which is not one.
Gender: fugitive, genre: fugitive, trope: fugitive change. 
FOR AN ANONYMOUS FUGITIVE AUTHOR is 
1. a machinic artistic medium in transition, 2. an assemblage of singularities, 3. a migrating dispositive of names, bodies, knowledge, lack of knowledge, organs, instruments, private and public histories and places … and the gaps, differences, misunderstandings between them (...)

Out of Place_an ongoing archive is a project conceived by Associazione 22:37 that began in 2013. This new phase of the project is initiated together with the newly formed Berlin-based association Peninsula.
The purpose of Out of Place is to create a temporary archive housing a broad overview of theoretical references and ideas about nomadism and its effects on the forms of contemporary art production. The core of our research is based on the idea that being out of place is a condition that causes a subject to continuously relocate himself or herself.
